Boon’s Calibre Travel 2026

St Agnes & Captivating Cornwall

Monday 25th May 2026 for 5 days

Once again we join our friends at the popular Rosemundy Hotel, in the picturesque coastal Cornish village of St Agnes, with its thriving, friendly community, interesting museum, beautiful beaches & breathtaking scenery. This fabulous holiday boasts three excursions taking in the magical Lost Gardens of Heligan, the pretty fishing village of Mevagissey, the charming seaside resort of St Ives, the fascinating Lizard Peninsula and Rick Stein’s Padstow. In addition, we have time at leisure in St Agnes.

Our hotel is the welcoming, family run AA 3* Rosemundy House, an elegant Queen Anne residence dating back to the 1780’s, beautifully situated amongst secluded gardens and woodlands, where we are assured of a warm welcome and excellent cuisine. The Rosemundy is ideally situated to explore the county of Cornwall and is also a comfortable home-from-home when at leisure. All well appointed en-suite bedrooms are on either the ground or first floor; for relaxation, there are comfortable lounges; and for the more energetic there is croquet and putting on the lawns, an outside plunge pool and hot tub. Meals are waitress served in the attractive restaurant, known as the Tom Noggi Room There is entertainment on some evenings.

Monday 25th: We depart from our local boarding points and head for the Southwest, with comfort stops en-route. On arrival at our hotel in St Agnes, we are shown to our rooms before dinner is served in the restaurant.

Tuesday 26th: Today’s excursion takes us to the charming resort and fishing village of St Ives, with its splendid beaches, fine views and mild climate. The beauty of St Ives has always attracted artists, and in recent times it has become an important centre of the arts, with museums, including the renowned Tate, and galleries adding to its appeal. We then take a scenic route, via Mounts Bay, and past the magical St Michaels Mount, to the Lizard Peninsula, the most southerly point of the British Mainland, an area of outstanding natural beauty, and the location for Marconi’s first radio signal to Canada, in 1901. The cliffs at Lizard Point are notable for their sinister-sounding "serpentine rock", which is a dark green colour, veined in red and white; several local craft and gift shops sell ornaments fashioned from this unusual stone. After a lovely day, we return to our hotel.

Wednesday 27th: After breakfast today, we travel via the resort of Perranporth, with its golden sands, former home of Poldark author, Winston Graham, to one of Cornwall’s oldest towns, the idyllic, picturesque fishing port of Padstow, which sits at the head of the beautiful Camel estuary. The town, with its narrow winding streets & colourful harbour, is known for its fine, locally produced food and is home to celebrity chef, Rick Stein’s, famous fish restaurant. We return to St Agnes to either relax in our lovely hotel or to explore the pretty coastal village; look out for Stippy Stappy, the row of pretty sea captains cottages, which tumble down the hillside; and also the remains of the stone built engine houses, a reminder of the area’s mining past; perhaps take a walk down to the beautiful Trevaunance Cove.

Thursday 28th: Today’s excursion takes us to the famous Lost Gardens of Heligan. Once lost to the brambles of time, these magnificent gardens have been rediscovered and lovingly restored to become one of the most loved in the UK. We have ample time to explore this magical estate at our leisure, before we travel the short distance to the pretty village of Mevagissey, a traditional Cornish fishing port with quaint shops and colourful cottages lining the busy harbour.

Friday 29th: After breakfast this morning, we commence our return journey, with comfort stops en-route. We arrive back in Essex early evening.

Includes: 4 nights half-board (dinner, bed & breakfast) in en-suite bedrooms, ground floor rooms, walk-in showers, disabled rooms, entertainment, 3 excursions. Admission to Lost Gardens of Heligan. Note: no lift at hotel, but ground floor rooms available.
