The Cricketers & Medieval Saffron Walden (with lunch) – Tuesday 24th September 2024

This new excursion takes us to the delightful medieval town of Saffron Walden, with its rich heritage of old buildings, including St Mary’s Church, the largest and one of the most beautiful parish churches in Essex.  In addition, the town has a bustling open-air market, and the tranquil, Grade II Listed, Bridge End Garden, which was restored to its former glory in recent times, and is well worth a visit (free entry). Our lunchtime destination is the “chocolate box” village of Clavering, where we enjoy a lovely 2-course lunch at the award-winning Cricketers, a delightful 16th-century English country inn, once owned by TV chef Jamie Oliver’s parents.

Adult/S.C: £59             (Not B & S)

Today’s excursion takes us to the medieval market town of Kingston with its colourful mix of shops and themed markets. Time to take a stroll along the Thames, and to visit one of the numerous cafes, bars or restaurants, before we make our way to Painshill, a beautiful award-winning 18th century landscape garden. Enjoy the mystical follies, historic plantings and some of Surrey’s amazing wildlife, take a walk round the Serpentine Lake and visit Hamilton’s Tea Room and the Gift Shop – don’t forget to buy a bottle of Painshill English Sparkling Wine – before we return home.

Suffolk Villages & lunch at the Four Horseshoes – Wednesday 23rd October 2024

Today we travel to the pretty village of Thornham Magna where we visit, reputedly, the oldest pub in Suffolk, the Four Horseshoes; a family run 12th Century thatched Inn, as lovely on the inside, as it is strikingly beautiful on the outside. After lunch, we make our way, via a scenic route, to the ancient market town of Woodbridge, attractively located on the Deben Estuary. Once a busy seaport, Woodbridge is considered one of East Suffolk’s most desirable locations (includes 2-course meal, tea/coffee)
